Day One - June 21, 2009

We departed from Kuya Lawrence's house at approximately 6:30 AM or so in order to meet up with the rest of the girls who would be accompanying us to Savannah, GA. I'd spent the night there, and there was almost some weird drama with my mom-- never you mind that I was going on a road trip, she was too concerned that I was "staying over at other people's houses"-- oh noes. Haha, oh, my mother. I love her, and I know she's only looking out for me, but still. Obviously, being the only child and a girl has a lot to do with it..

Anyway, so on we went on our road trip!
I made sure to Twitter along the way, though I'm sure not very many people read it. Eh, well, I did so anyway, just in case.

I kept track of our trip in my newly-purchased Moleskine-- I'd never come up with enough money for one before and always stuck to other kinds of journals, but had always wanted one. I wanted to make sure that what I wrote would be worth the money, for sure. And since I wouldn't have my LJ or anything else to keep everyone updated, I just stuck to random scrawling which later turned into longhand. However, Day One is full of "too early for any of my ranting" and random notes, so I'm just going to have to dig deep in my brain... That was quite a day, after all!

So here is our cast:
Allen, our wonderful driver and the spearhead of our road trip,
Kuya Lawrence (hereon out as L.A. or simply Kuya), my friend of roughly eight years since high school, and my "older brother," if you will (Kuya = Older Brother in Filipino),
myself, the crazy one,
and the other girls. :)

Maria was in our car that day, but she would be leaving with the other girls in the morning.
Still, it was nice to have her around, and the boys would make fun of her and her quacking noise,
"WAH, MARIA." "WAH, ARE WE THERE YET?" "WAAAAH~" XD

And this was also the first encounter we would have with the CD that would eternally be our soundtrack for the trip.
I cannot tell you how many times we listened to that one CD, but I'm pretty sure all the songs have ingrained themselves into my head. @__@

"I think I'm paranoid, I'm freaking out~" ... Oh, JoBros. Can't say that listening to them 10+ times (I kid you not...) makes me fond for them in any way. Even though after a while on the way back I started singing with it. T_T Sigh. I will never understand you, Brothers Jonai.

Anyway, we made it to Savannah, GA just in time to eat at Paula Deen's restaurant,
Lady and Sons.
Holy cow. @_@

I am going to make this note now: We ate a lot during this whole trip. It might as well have been all about food, which it'll probably sound like, actually. I probably gained weight... Bleh. T_T; But anyway.

I enjoyed the food, though I'm sure (dare I say it) there may be other local restaurants that would do better and for a lesser price, too. (Food Network gods are staring lightning bolts into my scalp at this very moment). I mean, I wasn't entirely blown away, and even the little biscuits and hotcakes they gave us were so much full of butter I couldn't actually eat more than one or two bites at most, but I s'pose "eating for the experience" (so they said) was worth it?

There was even a Paula Deen cut-out... Goodness me.

The sweet potatoes were excellent, though. And oh, would you believe, the dessert at the end was full of buttery goodness, too. Oh, Oreo gooey cake. XD (There will be pictures after this post, I think).

By the way. The slogan for her restaurant?

"Put some South in your mouth."

Oh, Paula Deen, you feisty woman you~

We ambled around the shops a bit, even went near to what was SCAD's library/exhibit hall sort of thing. However, it wasn't open til later, so we walked around more. And even then, we noticed that the next exhibit wouldn't be for a while, so we ended up missing out after all. :\ After this, we traversed the several squares and basically walked a few miles or so... (Little did we know...).

After all of this, we were all very worn out and had had enough of the sun that had been beating down on us for so long. It was ridiculously hot that day-- why didn't I look online for the weather? I wore pants. Come awn. T_T;;

We decided to see if we could check into the hotel-- I didn't know that we were going to fit all nine of us into one room, but that we did. Most of the girls + Allen went to the mall ("How? We just went shopping! Aren't you going to be hot?... Okay, bye...") and the rest of us (me!) napped. We woke up when they got back, Allen finally obtained a pair of aviators (I bought some just for this trip, too, haha), and we headed out for River St. (Oh, cobblestones).

We miraculously found some parking and made our way to where we would eat dinner. There was a steamboat sort of thing, a trumpet player, all of these wonderful people and stores. We were planning to dine at Huey's but Tubby's could seat all of us immediately, so away we went! The food was delicious. I was trying to save money so I ordered one of the cheapest things-- their "famous chicken fingers." XD It was a seafood place, mind you. (My chicken did have the textural quality of fish, I swear). But again, money was tight. I was even lucky enough to have money for this trip (yay graduation money ^^;;). I tried the literally local brew, Savannah Fest, which was a pale ale of sorts. I liked it, but it wasn't my sort of beer, it was very wheaty. I couldn't even finish it, I don't know what I was thinking. But still, I wanted to go for it. :D Because why not? We're all young.

As for table conversation, I learned of Sporcle; we discussed state and country capitals; and ah, nostalgia... I love reveling in nineties cartoons and shows. It's never been the same since then, but nothing ever is.
"THERE ARE ONLY THREE PIECES!" (Bonus if you can guess what show we were referring to).

We wandered the stores some more after this, then wandered to where we would have to be for our Ghost Tour.

Yes. A GHOST TOUR.

... Charamy gets freaked out very easily and will admit when she is the wimp and scaredy-cat. Sigh. ;_;

But it was allegedly family friendly, and I hadn't gone in one in ten+ years, so ... Okay.

I preferred our ghost tour to the others we saw, because at least we were walking and received a historical vantage point as well, rather than riding around in a hearse-- that's just ... a bit ridiculous, if you ask me.

I did take several pictures, though there were a few houses and places in particular that scared me where I didn't want to, though I did. If you're curious, google Laura's Cottage, and I can't remember the other one. Heck, I don't even like writing about it in here, it scares me that much. T_T And haint paint, if you feel like it. There was one picture that I took (I really don't feel like going through those pictures, they bother me that much) that I really thought it was of what she was telling us (I don't want to go into it T__T) but it may have just been the reflection of the flash in the windows... ... Eeegh.

See, I don't like scary movies, etc, because it all gets stuck in my head and I end up having nightmares. Yes, I'm one of those. ._. I can handle most things, just not that. I'm easily impressionable, you could say.

But yes, we all survived, and the ghost tour wasn't really all that bad. Although we kept saying that the ghosts kept tripping up Kuya Lawrence, though he said he didn't believe in 'em. :P

Other phrases or things I have note that I have scribbled down are,
"SCAD is everywhere" (it really is), Victory Drive! (ohou), FLAWLESS, Abercorn...

The houses were really nice there, too. And OH. Right, right...

Don't ever stay in a hotel in the historical district of Savannah. They're most likely haunted. T_T Unless you like that sort of thing. Then go right ahead and make sure to let me know about it. :P

I really enjoyed everyone's company. I hadn't seen Ate Kayla in far too long, nor the other girls as well. Yay bonding moments!

Funny, how life turns out.

I'll admit, throughout the road trip, I was trying to focus on just the trip itself, rather than... other things, but it seemed like no matter what...

Well, I won't write anything about that, this is about the trip. That's the point, right? :P Hahaha...

Anyway, here are some pictures, enjoy!

(There will probably be more on Facebook or Flickr, just putting some here for now :)
